WATER’S TRUE VALUE

· Worldwide water consumption is rising at double the population growth rate.  By 2025, scientists expect that 2 out of 3 people will not have direct access to clean water.

· Every lb. of coal burned uses ½ gallon of water, which adds up to 138 billion gallons of irreplaceable water each day.

· Rain and snow are the primary sources of fresh water. Global warming encourages droughts.

· Rain is a natural fertilizer and has the lowest salt content of natural fresh water sources, which makes it a superior source of water for plants.

· Rain is considered “soft” as it lacks calcium carbonate and magnesium. Soft water saves energy and maintenance costs.

· Just as the agricultural sector is trying to step up production to address  rising food prices and growing worldwide hunger,  water scarcity poses a threat to the world’s food supply.

· Rainwater harvesting fosters the communitization of water rather than commoditization. Access to clean drinking water should not be reliant on the profit interests of a handful of transnational corporations.
