Until December 2013 I listed this coin as 'does not exist'. The description in RIC was based on a single, evidently low grade coin, in the Dorchester hoard. This coin appeared in Auction Gemini 11, 1/12/2014 is clearly the second of this type. Curtis Clay (who discovered the coin , recognized it's significance and wrote the auction description), Gemini and Harlan J. Berk kindly allowed me to use their picture and description of this fascinating coin. Botom coin from collection of Tibor F. in Hungary (and an example with same dies in the BM). The Pannoniae are much closer than usual, but not as close as the example above. |
