Downieville Logistics
Situation:
A rather cool California summer is drawing to a close. Autumn is upon us.
The time is ripe for a "last hurrah" of autumn bike ride to celebrate
the changing of the seasons and the approaching winter.
Mission
Our mission is to assemble in the Downieville area for an in force
reconnaisance of and execution of the "Downieville
Downhill". This is a challenging ride over varied terrain that
includes a total 5000' elevation loss while traversing approximately 17 miles of
wild high Sierra backcountry. It is NOT for the week of heart. Survivors will
gather at a prominent local pub to wash the dust from their throats and relate
stories of the bear that almost caught them.
Execution
- Date of Mission: Thursday October 14th - Sunday October 17th, 1999
- The "Downhill" ride will commence on Friday 15 October 1999 @
0830 hours.
- An "After Action" debriefing is scheduled for 1800 hours 15 Oct
1999 at the local brew house.
- Further exploration of surrounding countryside is planned for Saturday and
possibly Sunday. Exact location TBD.
Logistics
- Lodging Location: Wild Plum
Campground. $6/night. No Reservations. As we are arriving on a Thursday,
we shouldn't have a problem getting campsites.
- Cooking will be in groups. Bikers are expected to form their own
eating groups and coordinate menus. Generally the car pool groups are the
cooking groups. Cooking will occur on Coleman Stoves and BBQ's. Bikers will
provide their own ice chests to store perishable foods and keep their beverages
cold.
- Equipment: Bikers will responsible for their own tentage, sleeping
gear, warm and cold weather clothing, repair parts, tool kits, etc. Be Prepared!!!
- Transportation: Car Pools are preferred. So far the arrangement
are:
