Internal Temperature Sensors - Block MM
Here we are using two LM34
Precision Fahrenheit Temperature sensors to monitor the internal health
of the ECM. These two sensors are placed on either side of the
case between the large TO-220 drivers and regulators. They will
be thermally attached to the sides of the case at these points.
We don't expect an excessive amount of heat driving high impedance
injectors but it will be a different story with low impedance
injectors. Could very well be in the 15 to 20 watt range at
cruise and much higher at elevated RPM. With these sensor the
internal temperatures can be monitored. Maybe even control a circulating
fan near the ECM. Where my ECM is mounted in the '34 there really
isn't any path for fresh air to get into the electronics bay.
With the combined heat of the stereo, compressors and the ECM things
might get a little toasty. I did install a 5" circulating fan but
with no real means to monitor the temperature I really don't know how
hot things are getting. Now I will be able to at least monitor
the ECM. And if it is a problem I can easily add an external LM34
somewhere to monitor the general temperature inside the compartment.
