Start '34 Re-Wire

Started to look at what I had to do to re-wire the '34.  When I originally installed the Weber EFI I broke apart the original harness and wired directly from the engine to the rear of the car where the ECM was located.  Made things clean but it also made it impossible to ever remove the intake manifold because the front of the wiring harness was now part of the air cleaner base.  So being that I had to cut this main harness anyways it seemed like a good time to try and install some kind of plug and socket arrangement to be able to remove the base of the air cleaner.  The big problem now, as before, was to be able to get a plug behind the motor between the bell housing and the floor.  By dropping the motor I was just able to get a 24 pin Amphenol series 97 plug through.  Also had to remove one bell housing bolt which was a real thrill as there was no space to get any kind of socket on it.  This series of photos shows the front of the wiring harness being severed.

You can see there is very behind the motor and firewall to rout the wiring harness.  And yes that valve cover is really that close.  Well actually maybe another 1/32" when the motor comes up.

The removed bell housing bolt.  That is the tightest spot.

The plug coupling will have to happen in this area just to the rear of the bell housing motor mount.  Looks like a lot of room now but gets real crowded when the air tank gets re-installed.

Ignition wires off and vacuum line removed.

The wiring harness being exposed.

No turning back now, the harness is now in two pieces.

Getting ready to lift the air cleaner base.

Out of there........

You can see what I mean about the air cleaner base is part of the wiring harness.

Got to duplicate this bend in the new harness.  Originally the track of the wires was laid out on a mule outside the car.

Not too many wires to deal with..........
