Broughtonia sanguinea aurea #4708 an outcross of 2 aurea clones ('5306' x 'Doug Kubo') (approximately 25 seedlings per flask). The Species: This is endemic to Jamaica where it is found from sea level to 2500 ft elevation. The plants are 8 to 10" tall and the pseudobulbs are close set so it is a compact plant. It can have 8-15 flowers on the inflorescence which may be up to 2 ft long. The long-lasting flowers are from 1 to 2" wide. This yellow form brightens up the greenhouse. Culture: These plants like warm tempertures and bright light. I grow them mounted on small branches and hang them up where the light is bright. With good humidity you can let them go dry for several days between waterings. If the humidity is low, more frequent waterings will be necessary. I fertilize at 1/4 strenght most of the year and lower in the winer. Give them good air movement. There is a lessening of rain in the winter though not a total absence, so water less often but do not give it a hard dry rest. Capsule parent: Broughtonia sanguinea aurea '5306'
