Cattleya maxima coerulea selfing #4223 (approximately 25 seedlings per flask). The Species: Cattleya maxima is a unifoliate species that is found in Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. There is a highland form which is a smaller plant with 3 to 5 flowers on an inforescence and more distance between growths. The warmer growing lowland form can be up to 24" tall, has closely clustered pseudobulbs and carries 12 to 15 flowers. This is the lowland form of Cattleya maxima coerula from Colombia. The flowers on this are about 5" wide and fragrant. Culture: This species grows well in warm and intermediate conditions. Grow in moderately bright light with good air movement. They do well in medium to large bark or any quick draining medium so the roots can dry quickly and the plants should dry before watering again. In the habitat there is a lessening of rain during the winter and the skies are brighter than in the summer months. Capsule Parent: Cattleya maxima coerulea '2516' |
