Cattleya/Laelia pumila outcross #3757 ('Humongous' x 'Super Dark') (approximately 25 seedlings per flask). This cross is from the Orchid Zone. I was doing flasking for them when they went out of business and abandoned the flasks. I don't have images of the parents, but the clonal names give a sense of the parents. The Species: This compact species if from the states of Espirio Santo and Minas Gerais, where they grow in humid forest and swampy areas usually low on trees. The growths are 4 to 8" tall and produce 1 or 2 frangrant flowers per inflorescence. The flowers are usually 3 to 4", but can be up to 5" across. Culture: Grow in moderate to moderately bright light. Rainfall is heavy during the growing season, but roots should be able to dry quickly. In the wintr monts, rainfall is decreased but not stopped. Plants should not be left dry for extended periods of time. I gorw my plants mounted on hardwood or cork bark. They can be grown potted with an open medium that allows the roots to dry quickly. They do well with a cool winter and warm summer. Cattleya pumila This is not one of the parents, but gives a sense of the species. |
