Sold out Dendrobium bensoniae outcross #4643 ('#5' x '#3') (approximately 25 seedlings per flask). The Species: From northeastern India and Burma where it is found up to 5000 ft elevation. It grows as an epiphyte in deciduous forests. The mature plant can be from 12 to 28" tall. Lasting more than 2 months, the 2.5" flowers have a fragrance that reminds many of chocolate. The inflorescences form on leafless pseudobulbs. Culture: Grow this in intermediate to cool temperatures. In the habitat, summers are warm and wet and the light is moderate. The winters are bright and cool and temperatures can drop close to freezing on occasion, but low 50's to upper 40's is more common. Be sure that if temperatures are low that the plants are dry. Water should be decreased in the winter, but the plants should not be dry for extended periods of time. The seed was provided by Cindy Hill. I show here a few of the clones from her collection. |
