Sold out Dendrobium hasseltii/cornutum outcross #1798 ('8437' x 'B') (approximately 25 seedlings per flask). The Species: This species grows in Java, Sumatra and Peninsula Malayasia. The parents of this cross are from Malaysia. The flowers are a dark, vibrant pink and last quite well. Throughout Java plants are common on ridges in hight mountai moss forest at 4900 to 10,000 ft. Dendrobium cornutum is considered a synonym of Dendrobium hasseltii. There is a wide range in plants sold under the names hasseltii and cornutum. I became acquainted with both names as separate species and I am having a hard time coming to grips with synonomy. Culture: I grow this in moderate to moderately bright light in cool conditions. I have been watering year round, but it might benefit from a lessening of water in the winter months. I use diltue fertilizer at every watering. It has done well for me potted in a fine bark mix. If grown in shade, the pseudobulbs will be longer and tend towards pendant or semi-pendant. The growths on the specimen plant shown here were 13" when photographed. Capsule Parent: Dendrobium hasseltii/cornutum '8437'
