Dendrobium heterocarpum #5297 x self (approximately 25 seedlings per flask). The Species: A widesprerad species throughout the Himalayas from India to China, the Philippines and many islands of Southeast Asia. It is found at elevations from 350ft to almost 6000. Depending on county and culture, plants can be from 6 to 60" tall. The parent plant of this cross has never gotten taller than 12" and another plant I have has topped out at 18". The flowers ar 1.5 to 3" wide and are carried with 2 to 6 flowers per infloresence. To me the fragrance is a wonderful cross between apricots and freesias, some say like violets or primroses and others find it unpleasant. The flowers are produced on leafless canes between 1 and 3 years old. Culture: Give this bright light and constant movement. The roots need to dry quickly. It can stay a bit moist in the summer, but must be drier in the winter months. It comes from a monsoon climate with a warm, moist summer and a drier cool/cold winter season. It is recommened to mount this plant so the roots dry, but potting in a smallish pot in a large bark can also work. Capsule parent:Dendrobium heterocarpum '6728' |
