Dendrobium schuitemanii #4762 outcross (approximately 25 seedlings per flask). The Species: This was first described in 2010. It had been around in the trade mislabeled as Cadetia potamophila. It is in the Section Cadetia which is now part of the genus Dendrobium. Plants of Dendrobium schuitemanii remain in bloom for a long period producing successive, single flowered inflorescences from each growth. A well grown plant can be in bloom most of the year. The flowers are about 1/2” wide and the plant is 3 to 4” tall. Culture: This has done well for me both potted and mounted. If potted, use a relatively small pot as it seems to flower best when root-bound. I’ve grown it in a fine bark mix. I have grown it with minimum nights in the mid-50’s and it has done especially well with night in the 60 to 65F range. Water as it approaches dryness throughout the year. I use dilute fertilizer at each watering. Dendrobium schuitemannii: These are images of the parents |
