Sold out Dendrobium tobaense regular form outcross ('7979' x 'Judy Carney') #2456 (approximately 25 seedlings per flask). The Species: This is the more compact form of this wonderful species. The The flowers are about 3" wide. It is in the nigrohisute (black haired) section of dendrobium. The species is from northern Sumatra and is found at elevations from 3300 to 4250 feet and a bit cooler grower than the large form. It grows as an epiphyte. The inflorescence carries several flowers that open successively. Culture: I have grown this species with 56 degree minimum night temperatures in moderate light. In the habitat, the day/night differential is about 15F with moderate day time temperatures. It likes to dry quickly between waterings, but not be left dry for any sustained period. I have grown this potted in medium bark, but think it does better mounted. In the winter it may benefit from reduction in water and fertilizer, but not a hard dry rest. Capsule parent: Dendrobium tobaense '7979'
