The Species: This is a deciduous species that is sometimes listed as a synonym of Dendrobium moniliforme. It is a medium sized plant with fragrant flowers up to 3" natural spread. It is from southern China where it is found at elevations 3300 to 4300 ft. It grows as an epiphyte and as a terrestrial. Culture: I have been growing this species since 2019 and it has done well in a fine bark mix in a plastic pot. It would likely do well mounted. From spring through fall I have been watering it as it approaches dryness. It is fertilized with dilute fertilizer during this time. In the late fall and winter I let it dry longer between waterings but not for prolonged periods of time. Give it good, moderately bright light, expecially in the winter. I am growing it with minimum nights of 50F in winter and mid 50's in the summer. It will do well in intermediate conditions. Capsule parent: Dendrobium wilsonii 'Ginger'
Pollen Parent: Dendrobium wilsonii 'Shan' |
