Domingoa haematochila #5918 outcross (approximately 25 seedlings per flask). The Species: This is found in Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico where it grows on twigs and small branches. The adult plants can be from 4 to 12” tall. Both of the parents are quite compact even when grown in shade. For reference, the overall length of the wooden mount is 7.5”. The blooming images are of the parents. The inflorescence blooms successively over a long period of time and a good sized plant can be in flower all year. The flowers are faintly fragrant and about 1” wide. Culture: I grow them in a warm greenhouse that has a minimum of about 65F at night. They are mounted on hardwood with very little moisture retentive medium at the roots. I water most days with dilute fertilizer and they are usually dry by the next day. I water less often in the winter but they do not stay dry for very long. If you want to grow them potted, water as they approach dryness. Capsule parent: Domingoa haematochila 5081
Pollen parent: Domingoa haematochila 5085 |
