Sold out Habenaria erichmichelii outcross #5715.15 (approximately 15 seedlings per flask). The Species: It grows in Thailand and was described in 2003 from a plant that had been imported as Habenaria rhodocheila. I don't have any habitat information. It is an uncommon terrestrial species with beautiful leaves and subtle shading on the flower. All that I have bloomed have been lovely. Habenarias need a dry winter rest, can be tricky and are definitely addictive. I find this species the on the easiest of those I have grown. The mature plants with spike are 7" or less. Culture: I grow this in a warm greenhouse with regular watering and dilute fertilizer during the growing season and then remove it from the greenhouse for the winter. If you water it during the winter it will rot. It is a delicate balance between an occasional misting to keep it from desiccating to a bit too much moisture. Discontinue regular watering when the leaves begin to fade in the fall. As spring approaches I put the plants back in the greenhouse where they will be warmer but not get watered. As the new growths emerge I increase misting making sure not to lodge any water in the funnel/crown of the plant. Once the leaves are opened up I gradually increase the water. They can also be grown warm-intermediate. More on dry rest for Habenaria. Habenaria erichmichelii. I don't have images of the parents of this cross so show here one that gives an idea of the species. |
