Habenaria rhodocheila orange #5641 & #5634 sibling cross (approximately 15 seedlings per flask). The Species: This is a sibling cross of two Habenaria rhodocheila. The blooming image is an example of the type of plants used in the cross. The flowers are about 1.5" wide, held above the foliage on a successively blooming spike with about 1/2 the flowers open at a time. Found in Southeast Asia through China and Japan at elevations from 660 to 4300 ft as a terrestrial or lithophyte. It has a distinct seasonal growth that must be mimicked to achieve success. Culture: I have grown this species in both intermediate and warm conditions successfully. You need to provide for the seasonal dry winter conditions to succeed with this genera. I have found these do best if I deflask while in active growth. I keep them in a covered plastic try for the first couple of weeks so the humidity stays high. An inexpensive covered aluminum cake or roasting pan from the grocery store will work well. More on dry rest for Habenaria. Parent: Habenaria rhodocheila orange. |
