Sold out Laelia speciosa Round outcross #2917 (approximately 25 seedlings per flask). This is an outcross of 2 plants that have very round, full flowers. The Species: A rarely seen species from Mexico that grows at elevations from 4650 to 8000 feet. This is a small plant with a spectacular large, fragrant flower. It has some very particular cultural requirements that must be met for it to thrive. Culture: Laelia speciosa has a very short summer growing season and a long dry period. I grow it quite dry and with cool to cold nights from late September to May or June. Depending on the humidity in the growing area, I water rarely and/or mist occassionally to keep the pseudobulbs plump. After growth starts and the plant has flowered, it gets water and fertilizer daily and sometimes twice a day to plump up the new growths. This is not one of the parents of this cross, but gives a sense of this species with wide segments on the flowers. Laelia speciosa '8945' |
