Sold out Oeceoclades gracillima (syn. roseovariegata) outcross #2913 (approximately 25 seedlings per flask). The Species: This is a terrestrial species that grows in humus between rocks or in semi-deciduous forests and is endemic to northern and north-western Madagascar. It is grown by many just for the beautiful patterned leaves. It is a small plant with pseudobulbs that are about 1" tall and a natural leaf span up to 3". I pronounce this: EE see-o CLAY deez. Culture: I've asked a number of people about how they grow their plantsand have gotten as many different answers. Some say a definite dry winter rest, others water year round. One said he grows in a "loose bark mix and very bright." Another recommends chopped coconut fiber, perlite, fine charcoal and a little New Zealand sphagnum. Others use mixes that also add sand or sand and peat moss. After much trial an error, I have stopped giving these plants a dry rest. I have had success growing these in sphagnum moss in a net basket. They do not dry out completely between waterings. Watering is delayed longer during the winter. but they do not get a hard dry rest. They grow in moderatelybright light. I now have them in a warm greenhouse (65F minimum nights), but others grow them intermediate. I do not have images of the parent plants so am showing here a few representative images of the species.
