Phalaenopsis pulcherrima v marmorata selfing #4452 (approximately 25 seedlings per flask). The Species: This was known for many years as Doritis pulcherrima. This particular variety marmorata has wonderful mottled foliage. It is normally a terrestrial species that grows from northeast India through southeast Asia as far as Borneo. Plants are usually found at lower elevations where they grow in well-drained, sandy soil with organic material. They grow in the shade of shrubs and bushes and can reach 6" tall and will form clumps. Culture: Grow these in warm-intermediate to warm to hot conditions. In the habitat, the winter months have less rainfall and the skies are clearer than in the summer. Even so, the plants should not dry out or remain dry for extended periods of time. Use an open mix that allows the plants to drain freely. Phalaenopsis pulcherrima v marmorata. I don't have an image of the parent plant so show a few examples of flowers of other clones. The disintive feature of this cross is the mottled foliage.
