Phalaenopsis wilsonii wild #4826 (approximately 25 seedlings per flask).

The Species: This grows at elevations from 2640 to 7250 feet and ranges from China, Myanmar and less commonly in northern Vietnam. This particular seed comes from China and was a capsule on an imported plant. It grows as an epiphyte and also as a lithophyte. At the higher elevations it can experience low temperatures and can be deciduous during the dry winter months. The lfowers are 1 to 1.5" wide and it can have up to 15 flowers on an inflorescence simultaneously. It has a sweet fragrance reminiscent of grape juice.

Culture: This species should be mounted on cork bark or other hardwood, preferably with rough bark. If you can, give the long roots room to run up and down the mount. Give it ample water and dilute fertilizer during the growing season and then a cool, dry winter rest with the occassional misting. I grow mine in a cool greenhouse year round in moderate light. Ideally the summer temperatures should be more in the intermediate range. In nature, the winter nights can be in the 40's
