Sold out Platyrhiza quadricolor outcross #3618 (approximately 15 seedlings per flask). The Species: This species is rarely seen in the US and not that common in Brazil. The mature plant is 1” tall and the flowers are about 1/3 of an inch wide. This grows in the Atlantic rainforest along the coast of Brazil in the states of Rio de Janiero, Sao Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina. It is found at elevations from 450 to 3300 ft as a low level epiphyte on trees and shrubs. Culture: I have always grown this with 56F minimum nights and it should do well warmer. They do well on hardwood with little or no moisture retentive material at the roots if humidity is good. These seem to like a quick wet/dry cycle. That means the roots want to dry quickly and then be watered frequently (possible the next day). They do not want to be moist all of the time. A lessening of water and fertilizer in the winter may be beneficial. Grow in moderate light. Platyrhiza quadricolor: The first two images are of one of my plants, but I’m not sure if it was the one used in this cross. The 3rd image is of a specimen plant grown by Ron Parsons.
