Pterostylis saxicola #5340 wild (approximately 25 seedlings per flask). The Species: This is endemic to the area around Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It has a rosette of leaves at its base and up to ten reddish-brown flowers with translucent "windows", relatively wide lateral sepals with short-pointed tips and a dark brown, fleshy, insect-like labellum. Culture: So far I have only grown this in flask. I found this description on an Australian government website, "Found in forest or woodland in shallow sandy soil over flat sheets of sandstone rock shelves above cliff lines and also in crevices between sandstone boulders; often in close proximity to streams.” As with other Pterostylis, the growth period is in the cool winter season into spring with blooming in spring. Then as the leaves die back, water is reduced and discontinued until new growth resumes. Pterostylis saxicola: An unrelated clone.
