Sold out Schlimia condorana '2668' selfing #3674 (approximately 25 seedlings per flask). The Species: This small Stanhopea relative is rarely seen in collections. It is endemic to Ecuador where it grows in wet mountain forests at elevations between 4250 and 6000 ft, usually as an epiphyte and sometimes as a terrestrial. The inflorescence carries up to 8 of the fragrant, 1.75" tall flowers. The inflorescence can go down into the medium, but most often moves along the top of the medium and then turns pendant when it reaches the edge of the pot. It has a notable fragrance that changes the longer one inhales. It goes from pleasantly medicinal to something sweeter. I don't remember very clearly, so perhaps it is the other way around, but it is very interesting. Culture: I grow this plant with 50 degree minimum winter night temperatures in moderate light. It should do well at the cool end of intermediate. It gets its brightest light in the early morning and then is rather shady. I have always grown it in a net pot in sphagnum moss that hangs up so the spike will be free. I have been told that the spike goes over the top of the medium like a Gongora. But I have seen them come straight out of the bottom of the net pot.It is growing with my Dracula species and gets watered most every day so that it never dries out. Parent: Schlimia condorana '2668'
