Name: Scotty
Shanks-Bruemmer
Nickname(s): The guys in the
band call me "The Scotty", but other nicknames include Scotchy
McBoozy (my favorite), Poopy (my husband calls me that, don't ask!) and
shameful childhood nickname, Butterball!
Born when & where: July
2nd, 1963, Fayetteville, NC
I play: My voice
My gear: My big mouth
Past bands: I've been singing
in bands for over 20 years. I used to live in Minneapolis where I sang in
several RAB bands, including The Darlin's and Scotty & The Satanaires, and
often crashing the stage and singing with Trailer Trash and The Vibro Champs. I
also had a Jump Blues/Swing band called Scotty Shanks & her Cabana Boys -
we played every Monday night at Lee's Liquor Bar for what seemed like an
eternity. In college, I sang in a jangly-poppy-alt-country-folky band with the
Bay Area's own Tom Armstrong (those were the days!)

Influences - past: Patsy Cline
(for obvious reasons, and because she swore like a sailor and didn't take shit
from anyone,) Ella Fitzgerald (for possessing the best instrument ever, and for
her prevailing strength and dignity for doing what she did when she did it,)
Rose Maddox (for putting up with all of her brothers,) Nellie Lutcher (for
being a woman songwriter when their were hardly any women songwriters,) Wanda,
Janis, Jean, Carl, Eddie, etc. (the usual RAB suspects who paved the way,)
Betty Hutton (for not being afraid to be wacky and not just purty and to belt
it out!) and many more depending on the time and the place and what I was
drinking
Influences - present: I don't
listen to much music recorded after 1965 or so, so I'll just keep my mouth shut
Turn-ons: (besides singing
with the band?) - kustoms, 50s western memorabilia, sock monkeys, dogs in
clothing, cocktails, food, general hedonism
Turn-offs: Cilantro,
insecurity couched in arrogance, young upstart jackanapes
I'm the band member most
likely to: have menstrual cramps
