* Cult Members Curry Recipes (those Brits) I recovered this old dialogue: He: Some Christians object to celebrating Easter because the word "Easter" originates with the ancient goddess Ishtar or Astarte. I once spoke to a Protestant theologian (who himself celebrated Easter with all the trimmings) who told me that the NT acolytes of Ishtar passed around "Ishtar eggs" during their goddess' spring celebrations. But other Christians' main concern - I am in this number - is which chocolate ear should I bite off first? To tell me I can't eat eggs or candy because they once had some occult connection is a little like telling me I can't brush my teeth because Adolf Hitler did. Me: Hitler was a vegetarian [which caused great flatulence, the treatment for which included massive doses of toxins that drove him mad... but I digress]; therefore, vegans are Nazis and all right-thinking folks should eat lots of meat, preferably raw. Or so the logic goes...

Somehow we made it past the Solstice-Xmas-Chanukkah-Kwanzaa-NewYear season of 2005, squatting in our modern retreat in the Sierra Nevada mountains. We'll swerve past Old XMas and Should I admit to overindulgence? Shall I blame a newly-moved-here inlaw, a former high-stress senior corporate executive who relaxes by constructing elaborate feasts, and who provided us with entirely too much chocolate? Can I blame SAD (seasonal affective disorder) resulting from midwinter's short gloomy days? Was it the sumptious Freda Kahlo Xmas dinner? (Soon, I'll post the menu here.) Or maybe just insufficient jalapeños? Whatever. I predict a near future of cabbage salads.
