I've been teaching on and off since 1973. Teaching all sorts of Biology has allowed me to pursue my true love of inquiry and the outdoors. A trip to Antarctica is a way I can satisfy both my need to discover and ponder about the workings of our natural world.
I began to think about how Antarctica works when I was ten and read a book about Byrd and his expedition. My mind quickly started to work out questions when Sobek Travel asked us to become involved. To get students interested and involved is my goal in the field biology class I am teaching. A student working on Plankton gave me an idea to get data on plankton and the ocean temperatures and conditions of Antarctica. It's like a voyage to the moon. What lives there, how do the cycles work? My mind swirls with questions about algae, moss, liken, and penguins. How is man affecting them and how they interact with each other to form an intricate web. All questions for inquiry.
