Jessica Needham's Antarctic Log

-Entry for December 8, 1995-

Hello, my name is Jessica Needham. I am a student at El Molino High School in Forestville, California. On November 28, 1995 Mr. Jonathan Chester came to our school to talk about the Virtual Antarctica trip we are participating in. Through my geography class I will be able to communicate and interact with the travelers going on the trip to Antarctica. In order to understand what the travelers are going through and doing Mr. Chester talked about the climate and geography of the continent itself. For example he told us that , over all, Antarctica is the highest continent in the world. It may not have very tall peaks but the average of the two mountain ranges it contains is higher than any other.

As the voyage to Antarctica progresses I will be writing a journal of all the different facts I learn and things I experience through Netscape and Vitual Antarctica. I have already learned things that I didn't know before the visit from Mr. Chester. Did you know that there are no land mammals at all on the continent of Antarctica? I didn't. Also, the average temperature, in the summer, of Antarctica is around 32 degrees {freezing} and during the winter the temp. is so cold that the sea water all around the continent freezes. These are only a few things that I have learned in only a few short days. I hope that through Netscape and Virtual Antarctica I will be able to learn more then I ever imagined.
