Rob Knop's Gratuitous Computer Nerd Page
I'm not just a computer nerd, I'm an open source / free software wacko... mostly. Wherever possible, I like to use free software, especially for stuff I use. For some things such as games, I have no objection to proprietary software, any more than I have an objection to watching a movie without necessarily seeing all of the stuff that went into making the movie. But if I depend on it, I've been bitten in the past by annoying licence restrictions and cumbersome licence managers. It's both more likely to work, and more future-proof, if it's open source.
GNU R: R is a statitsical data anlaysis package and programming language. My R page has some notes I've made for myself and for my students. There are also instructions for installing R and a graphical front-end called the "R commander" on Windows, MacOS X, and Linux. (It's easy on Linux, because we have awesome package management systems that install all kinds of great open-source software.)
