Dettmer's works generally involve found books that are then altered in various ways. In this work, he began with a book about 19th Century art and selectively cut away through each page leaving a pattern of chosen images. In the detail, you can see that most of the remaining swirls contain the eyes of the portraits he "exposed".

The "Installation View" image shows how the book hangs on the wall like a framed art work.
