IMAGE OF EARTH AND QUILL

Guest Poet Sylvia McCutcheon

The Mother

Frozen chickens frozen peas buy one get one free
as she filled her shopping trolley she thought of the Atlantic sea

Great value packets of tastless packs of food
she longed to tell the shoppers were salmon really tasted good

fifty denier lycra tights thermal vests and socks
as she thought of running barefoot along the sand and rocks

Family round the table shouting whats for tea
then staring in amazement at their plates of frozen chicken and uncooked lumps of peas

Are you going mad they called into her little kitchen
not knowing she was off to live in her dreamy world of fiction.

Sylvia McCutcheon's Questions:

Is this too offbeat?

Do you get the person she was?
