DSCN9507 DSCN9509 DSCN9511 PGE power plant.jpg 1/24/2021: On January 27, 1959, amid rising concern over a proposed PG&E nuclear power plant at Bodega Bay (pictured here in the 1960s), the Press Democrat began a four-part series of articles looking at the effects of the PG&E power plant on the community at Morro Bay. Debate over the choice of plant site at Bodega Bay increased throughout 1959, and continued over the next several years, until PG&E decided in 1964 to drop the project. (The Press Democrat) 10/25/2020: On October 30, 1964, after several years of controversy, the Pacific Gas & Electric Co. announced they were withdrawing their application to build a nuclear power plant at Bodega Head. The famous "Hole in the Head" excavation at the proposed power plant site is now part of California's state parks system. (The Press Democrat) Original caption: The hole dug by the Pacific Gas & Electric Co. for a proposed nuclear plant that was never built came to be known as 'The Hole in the Head.'
