Glen Ellen Village Market
Glen Ellen, CA
The Glen Ellen Village market was designed for local market owners in this small wine country community. The building is sited at the main downtown intersection and is bordered by a creek that limited the building and parking lot size and location. Based on local desires and county design guidelines the building is designed with three “front” facades, a difficult task in a market building that requires loading and storage facilities.
The building architecture with it gabled roofs, stone base and plywood and batten siding reflects the local rural surroundings. Wood trellises and low stone walls in the landscape and patio areas create a progression and layering of the façade that lowers the building's scale to the street and community. The building houses an upscale grocery market and small branch bank.
