Hodges Residence
Santa Rosa, CA
The Hodges Residence was designed to step gently up a west-facing hillside that adjoins open space park land. The multi-level three bedroom home’s wedge-like forms have broad overhangs that shield windows from the sun and create areas of deep shadows in the façade. The home wraps around a courtyard and provides shelter from the prevailing winds for outdoor activities. The garage is entered from the side of the home and guests proceed up broad steps through the lush landscape to the covered entry.
The angular contemporary aesthetic is made more organic by the use of lapped cedar siding and a central stone fireplace that anchors the home to the hillside, serves the living room level and becomes a feature wall at the main entry foyer.
