Were the pipes for the faucet deliberately designed that way so the hose could be wrapped around them, or was it a fortuitous happenstance?

Over toward the right is a large ceramic container with a blue stripe around it, upended. We had a couple of these, I think. Where we got them or what they had been intended for, I don't remember, but they were always around, and I thought they were cool.
