Larkspur > Larkspur Gallery > City Hall

1955 Taken from the steps of St. Patrick's. At this time, the second floor, now remodeled into city offices and the Council Chamber, was still a large auditorium, complete with a proscenium stage. It was used for various community meetings and events, including those of such local organizations as the Larkspur circle of the United Ancient Order of Druids. My mother belonged, and at times I accompanied her as she and her fellow Druids set the place up for one of their shindigs. I still remember the pervasive aroma of the hall's old parched and dusty wood. Behind the proscenium were a scattering of old props and the remains of stage settings from bygone pageants. Kitchen facilities were located behind the two windows immediately below the left tower. The entire Larkspur Police Department was housed in a couple little rooms behind the two windows on the first floor at the extreme left. I just had a sobering thought: at the time this picture was taken, the City Hall building was 42 years old. Today (2008), the picture itself, and those memories of mine, are 53 years old.
