This is the last you'll see of the old wooden St. Patrick's. The building was prominently featured in a montage of establishing shots for the town of "Larkspur, Idaho" in the 1949 feature "Impact." The Larkspur fire house and volunteer fire department (and even the fire whistle - most other people called it a horn) had an even bigger role in the movie.
The old St. Patrick's served as the church hall after the new church was built, and this is where I attended Catechism all through my LCM years. I liked the old place; the smell of the dry, dusty wood; the kitchen behind what had been the altar; the stained-glass windows with their colorful old-fashioned religious pictorials and donor inscriptions that contrasted with the blank, brown mottled glass in the new chuch. |
