It's spring 1953 and here we are, Mrs. Madeline Drew's first grade class at Larkspur-Corte Madera School, getting our picture taken in the traditional spot, by the redwood grove at the west end of the schoolyard. In both pictures you get a glimpse of a building across the street on Magnolia Ave. They're different buildings, though. In 1953, it was a gas station, though its more important function was selling candy to us school kids. A house replaced it in the 60s, but interestingly enough, the driveway in front retained the configuration of the station's drive-thru. For you newcomers out there, LCM was at 20 Magnolia Ave. The buildings are still there, but no longer used as a public school. Here's who I can identify: Front row: Me, Bob Brill, Steve McClure, unidentified, David Polanshek, Bob Groth, James Costello, Jim Mistron Second Row: Mrs. Drew, Margaret Estrada, Sandra Gray, Donna Wayne, unidentified, unidentified, Rae Ann Raudio, Roberta Rossi, Kathy D., Virgina Martin Third Row: Jerry Louti, Buzzy Thiercoff, unidentified, Fred McDougall, Gordon MacDermott, Frances Adams, unidentified, Alice Hofer, Alice Lucas, Shiela Malone. |
