Larkspur > Then and Now > View from the Hills
|
November 1955 Taken from Little King Mountain. Downtown Larkspur is at the lower right, with Ward St. clearly in view along with the Blue Rock and the bank building at the corner of Magnolia. The small hill beyond Ward is now gone, the site of Meadowood. At the left center in the slough, Greenbrae Marina has been dredged up, but building houses would wait until the 1960s. In the center, the site of Redwood High is ready for construction to begin. The wooded knoll beyond is where Tamal Vista Blvd. and Nellen Ave. are today. At the bottom, the cut in the slope is the curbed and guttered but never paved Citron Ave., now the access to the King Mountain open space trail. At the lower left it meets Cedar Ave. in a hairpin turn. click images to enlarge |

November 2002 I wasn't able to shoot this view from exactly the same angle because of nearly fifty years' worth of trees, brush and poison oak covering the slope. This was as close as I could come, a bit to the north and not as high up. Many landmarks are still visible, though, including the tower of the Blue Rock and the roof of the bank building downtown, and the Citron-Cedar hairpin intersection at the lower left. click images to enlarge |
