My degree was in political science–if I knew then what I know now, I would have switched it to computer science. Ah well. After a year abroad in Spain, I spent a few years working at a Napa Valley Winery after earning my bachelor's then moved to San Francisco to pursue my master's in marketing. I have yet to complete the degree, since I landed a job in marketing. Instead I've turned my focus to learning HTML, CSS, SQL and eventually Javascript.

I jumped on a bus and moved west from Ohio when I was 19. Hola. My name is Christian Alba. I commute to Santa Rosa from Napa twice a week. I have my A.S. in “Computer Science with an emphasis in network security” and currently work for the Napa County Information Technology Services as a computer technician. I recently changed my major from computer programing to Digital media once I realized I can’t see myself programing eight hours a day. I got inspired with videography once I purchased my first GoPro and created my first video ever since then I’ve been hooked on it. In High School I was quite the procrastinator, so one of the main reasons I'm at SRJC is to have a transitional phase between HS and a 4 year college. I got by with good grades before, but I know that's not true, so really hoping by the time I transfer out I have obtained the good student habits. My educational goals are completing my general ed, obtaining an associates in math, if they let me since a lot of the requirements are the same, and CS through the JC, and then transfer to a 4 year to get bachelor's. I'm taking this course partially because I need to, but mainly because all of this CS material has quickly caught my interest/enjoyment.

I'm the third born in a family of 4 sons. Graduated HS last year. My eldest brother got his bachelor's at the start of this summer, and my older brother completed the SRJC Fire Academy this last semester too. One of my cousins graduated from middle school, and my younger brother graduates this year, and pretty sure another cousin graduates HS this year too. Followed by another graduation from another cousin this next year, so I'm getting tired of graduations without any break in sight. I also have quite a large family. My hobbies/interests include gaming, on my laptop I play SWTOR and Minecraft via FTB, for console I have an Xbox One. I enjoy comic related stuff, reading the comics I can get a hold of, watching comic book related shows, going to comic book movies, playing comic book character video games. Programming is quickly becoming a hobby of mine too, though I'm still at the learning stage, I enjoy seeing what sort of program I can write just for fun.

I am a performer. I'm a mix of music (vocals), acting, cosplaying/modeling, drawing, and whatever happens to be my current fascination. We live now in a world that actively tries to make us not succeed, so I no longer treat my endeavors the way I did as a child, like a staircase leading to some reachable destination. Each thing I do now, I try to enjoy in the moment. After all, they do say the fun is in the journey, even if the intended destination no longer exists. Hi! My name is Jessica Thomas. I am married to my husband of 10 years and have 3 beautiful boys. They are ages 8, 6, and 3. My husband recently had to medically retire from his job as a police officer because he hurt his back in a car accident while working. This has put our family in a financial strain the past 2 years that we can't seem to pull out of. This is what made me decide to try to come back to school a little early to complete classes and earn my bachelor's degree in the next few years. I feel ill equipped to support our family because the skills I have to offer an employer won't pay enough money to support my family. As a family, our hobbies are bike riding, movies, hanging out with family and friends, sports, swimming, playing with our dogs, and pretty much anything that gets us outside and moving. I am a tech nerd of course. I worked for Microsoft in one of their stores for two years and I am now on the other team and work at Apple literally a stones throw from my old Microsoft store. I am very well versed in both Windows OS (new and old) and Mac OS mostly Mavericks and newer but I can get around fine in Mountain Lion and Snow Leopard. My area of specialty is mobile devices. I have no idea why and how but I have picked up the ability to trouble shoot most phone and tablets no matter the operating system. I think it comes from the constant phone upgrades so I can have and play around with the latest and greatest. Other than techie stuff I am planning a wedding with my AMAZING fiance. Still a year away from the date but it is surprisingly a lot of work. What else can I add?..I am also (along with my fiance) a HUGE Disney nerd. We have Annual Passes and go 4-5 times a year.

I work at Keysight Technologies, formally Agilent, Hewlett Packard. I have worked as a technician in the R&D engineering department for more than 20 years. In the past few years I’ve been working more with test data, SQL, database administration, data retrieval and statistical analysis software for which we write our own scripts. It became apparent that some programming skills would be a great help, so last semester I enrolled in my first programming class (C++). The programming knowledge has been a tremendous help so far. I’m also interested in Java Script, and interfacing with the Web. Web design is a prerequisite for Java Script. I'm looking forward to this class and hoping that Web Design proves as interesting and useful as the C++ class.

Personal Story
As previously mentioned, I have worked at Keysight, Agilent, H.P. for nearly 25 years. I have an A.S. Degree from SRJC, and have taken many classes over the years. I took a 9 year break from my job with Hewlett Packard during which time I attended SRJC, ran a home childcare business, obtained my Attorney Assistant Certificate at SSU and worked as a paralegal for a short time before returning to H.P. I am married and have 3 wonderful daughters. My oldest daughter graduated from SSU last year. My middle daughter just graduated from UC Santa Cruz this past June, and my youngest just graduated from high school and is currently attending SRJC. I love to cook. I have a large garden, and grow most of our own produce. I have taken a few great plant and landscape classes here at SRJC. I am interested in wine and have taken several wine classes at SRJC as well. I enjoy hiking, camping and running. We love our pets. My educational goals at the JC are to stay motivated and learn computer-science, enough to where I can teach my skills to others. My goal is to transfer to Berkeley once my credits are complete. I am taking this course because I have always been interested in web-design and will get me one step closer to being a "full-stack-developer."

Personal Story
I own a dental lab and have been self-employed for 35 years. I live with my husband outside Occidental and besides our careers, we are week-end farmers growing premium wine grapes. I enjoy kayaking, hiking, gardening and generally being active and outdoors.

Educational goals:
I originally started at the JC to complete my AA in Administration of Justice with a minor in Psychology and Child Development upon doing so I did get my certificates in Children in the Justice System and Corrections which is and was my passion at the time. As I stated looking to to the field of work I realized how much time I would be taking from my own children and decided to rethink my interests so I could be at home with an open schedule. I love computers and designing thing on the web especially when it comes to projects with my children. So I decided this would fulfill my interests. My husband owns a plumbing and fire protection company and we have alway paid an outstanding amount of money for someone to come in a design my ideas and create our web page. Well now I will be able to save money as well as have fun doing it. Not to mention I love photography so this will be a bonus to go along with my passions. I can always go back to my original line of study once the last of my 7 children are grown and off to college themselves.

Personal Story
I have been a stay at home mom for as long as I can remember. I was a single mother of 3 children for a few years until I met my current husband whom has 2 children of his own. We had been best friends for a long time and realized that we make a good team and decided to marry 17 years ago. During those 17 years we had 2 more children of our own, which if you are counting that makes 7 altogether. We have 5 boys and 2 girls. Our children are 30, 27, 26, 25, 23, 16, and 11. Not to mention I have 2 beautiful grand daughters and another on the way. We are truly blessed. There isn't anything more important to me than my family and this is why I decided to join the field of web design. I can do this at home, on vacation in the car, just about anywhere and still be available for my husband, children and grand children whenever they need me. Fortunately my husband and I know a lot of people in the construction field that have already said they would love for me to design them something, so I am very excited to learn as much as possible. My biggest hobbies is photography. All of my children have been involved in sports and doing photography had allowed me to get closer to them on the field and capture that magic moment and print for display. My entire life revolves around my family so this is my very biggest passion as well as my hobby.

Educational goals:
I chose SRJC as my choice mainly because it was local, and I thought it would be a huge help in preparing myself for the future. I am taking this class in particular so I could have better computer knowledge so when I take up my career choice with game programming I will have quite a bit of computer knowledge.

Personal Story
I have spent most of my life highly involved with computers and technology, and growing up, I grew up poor but always content with life. Along with being poor, I never lived in a place for longer than 2 months, up until my 8th grade year, then after I graduated High School, I moved up here to get a fresh start, and here I am. As to about myself, I would say I am a pretty damn hilarious person, and as for hobbies, I am a huge gamer and love reading, playing or listening to music, and I trained myself to play Beethoven's 9th symphony on my Violin by ear.

Educational goals:
I'm taking this class to upgrade my skills. I took the 8-week version of this class years ago while HTML 4 was the new standard. It's time I learned about HTML 5.

Personal Story
I teach part-time for SRJC in the Computer Studies department, mostly MS Office classes and CS 5 (Computer Literacy). Taking classes at SRJC is an ongoing process for me. I think taking classes and seeing the classroom from a student's perspective helps make me a better teacher. My hobbies include photography, reading and astronomy. I am physically active, walking 4-6 miles almost every day, which helps me keep up with our grandchildren. I believe learning is a life-long activity and I look forward to sharing a great learning experience with the rest of the class.

I'm not sure on goals now. I am taking this class as a prerequisite to the SQL class. I work in accounting at a property management company, among other things I am the software admin and hope to learn enough to create some basic custom reports.

Personal Story
I like traveling, I have moved around a lot. One of my favorite places I've lived was Seattle and I try to visit every couple years. I don't have any passport stamps though so I hope to change that in the next couple years. I am a certified massage practitioner and a notary public, I also do bookkeeping on the side. Massage I have not done as a job but I like learning new things. I love comedy in all forms and people always comment on my laugh, its the only time I get loud.

Hello! I am at the JC whittling away at the Graphic Design Certificate. Mid way, I realized I really want to make websites for people. I am a good artist and enjoy playing on Photoshop, but people want and need websites. I have wanted to learn how to create web sites for so long, but never thought I could! Now, I know I can and am so excited!

Personal Story
Well, lesse here, I am a 35 year old lady and I have a four year old daughter. I am a single parent going to school so I can start my own business from home or possibly work for a company as well, making signs or t shirt prints as well as creating web sites. My hobbies include reading, sewing purses, meditating and being really lazy. I am interested in visiting the Navajo Nation in Arizona but I don't have a car so I am hoping to meet someone, maybe a handsome fellow who wants to go with me.

Personal Story
I live in Alameda and commute to my job at a nonprofit organization in SF. I raised my kids in Sonoma County and now that they have "flown the coop", I am off into another adventure of learning web design. I love animals, especially cats and I love to bake. I trained to become a pastry chef, but it seems to be a better hobby for me than a career. Both of my daughters are successful and lovely young women and I am very proud of them.

Hi, my name is Michael. I was born in Detroit, Mi and I've been living in Santa Rosa for about half a year now. I left my parents and brother behind to start a new life here with my fiancee and her daughter. I enjoy music, books, crafts, and food. I moved to California from Colorado four years ago, so I really enjoy the outdoors, being active, and continuing to explore new spots around the coast.
