Site was tested under these conditions - I successfully opened my web page from our two Firefox-protected, desktop MACs (15" and 20") using Explorer, Netscape, and Safari/Google with no problems. But I was not able to open it from our Forefox-protected desktop 15" Dell PC by any of these methods. I was unable to find my page from any of the similar modes: Explorer, Netscape, Safari/Google

problems you encountered, adjustments you decided to implement - I fixed one Resources link (NAPRALERT). Again, I was not able to open it from our Forefox-protected desktop 15" Dell PC by any of these methods. I was unable to find my page from any of the similar modes: Explorer, Netscape, Safari/Google.

Site was tested under these conditions - i tested all of mine on my PC with an LCD monitor running at running at 1280 by 1024. i tested internet explorer and firefox because those are the two i have. i also changed my resolution down step by step to see what would happen.

problems you encountered, adjustments you decided to implement - i actually encountered no problems with the resoultion changing, it was all the same right down to 800 by 600. I also didnt notice any difference in internet explorer or firefox at all. I didnt only look at the homework page either, i ran through each assignment to see how it would affect everything.

Site was tested under these conditions - I have tested my site on Expolorer and Safari. It is pretty friendly with Expolorer, but not so much on Safari. I have also tested on a PC as well as a MAC and it works fine with both. I have also tested it on a laptop (14" monitor) as well as a desktop (15"-21" monitor) and works fine except for the larger monitors.

problems you encountered, adjustments you decided to implement - The largest problem that I have is with monitor size. I plan to do some testing to have it center on any size monitor. I also have some problems with the CSS code that I plan on fixing when I take the CSS class in the Fall.

Site was tested under these conditions - I tested the various screen sizes indicated in your email with www.anybrowser.com - interesting. Did not notice any obvious problems with the site trying various sizes. Used IE and Firefox. (Limited resources at my disposal!) Need to go to school and do a real test on a variety of platforms to be sure it really is OK.

problems you encountered, adjustments you decided to implement - none, really. I do plan on adjusting/verifying color display - will most likely need to create dither files to ensure the pages are looking as I want.

Site was tested under these conditions - Desktop PC and a MAC with IE and Netscape. Viewed with a 17" flat panel as well as a 15" regular screen. I viewed with 1024x768 and 800x600. I was not able to get a laptop before this evening but interested on any variance due to size.

problems you encountered, adjustments you decided to implement - Unfortunately, I had such simple pages that there was not much to have problems with yet. I expect that adding graphics and more text will likely lead to some necessary adjustments of pages.

Site was tested under these conditions - Tested my site using firefox 1.5 and IE 6 using resolutions of 800 x 600 and 1280 x 960

problems you encountered, adjustments you decided to implement - I notice some differences in using different browsers such as the font seem to be a bit bigger in firefox and that the borders on my frame differ (IE = 1 line, firefox = 3 lines). Using different resolution would make everything bigger or smaller which both made the site look kind of weird at 1280 x 960 there seems to be to much white space and at 800 x 600 my frames get kind of messed up and to see some images you have to scroll to the left or right. Dont know really what I could do to fix these problems besides maybe finding the most used resolution and creating a website using the same resolution.

Site was tested under these conditions - I used Internet Explorer and Firefox without noticing a real difference. I did notice a huge difference when switching from my laptop (that I designed it on) and my desktop at work. The desktop made the graphics look so big! Same thing when switching to a larger monitor, which we have at work. The page looked enormous.

problems you encountered, adjustments you decided to implement - I haven't decided to change it yet, since I think a total redesign will be in order. Definitely smaller graphics and fonts will be used.

Site was tested under these conditions - This isn't really a class project (it's the site I create for my company) but I thought it would be a good idea to test it under some different platforms. I use a PC, so I tried it on Mac (it was fine) using Netscape and IE. Also tried it on Netcaptor (my husbands favorite browser) and it was fine. Looks fine on 15, 17 and 19 inch monitors. We designed it for 800 x 600, so I was pretty sure it would look ok on those monitors. I couldn't find a machine that would display in 256 colors! The lowest I could fine was 16 bit. I was pretty good about using web-safe colors for the pics, so I am hoping it looks OK in 256.

problems you encountered, adjustments you decided to implement - I stumbled across a few problems over the couse of the semester. One had to do with the SSI assignment. I didn't proof my work carefully enough and the page wouldn't load due to the existance of just two typographical errors

problems you encountered, adjustments you decided to implement - The only real problem I had was that the Vikram Seth section was offset in Opera. I never figured out how to fix it. On other projects, however, I have taken to making looser designs that have wiggle room for the Opera offset. I've heard there is a better fix for this but I haven't found it yet.

Site was tested under these conditions - I tested my site under: 3 different resolution situations including: 256 colors, 800 x 600 pixels (16 bit), and 1024 x 768 pixels (32 bit). and 3 different internet browsers including: internet explorer, Mozilla Firefox, and Opera.

problems you encountered, adjustments you decided to implement - The main problem with resolution on my page was that I could not see the entire page while on a lower resolution. I had to scroll sideways to view any information on the right. Also I noted that with 256 colors the coloration changed slightly in the window and drastically on my desktop. The only way I found to fix the resolution problem was to move the center divider slightly to the left and cut off some lines earlier to assure that people with lower resolutions could see the right end of the page. The higher (1024 x 768) resolution showed the most information of the tree. How much the most was depended on the browser. When implementing different browsers I noticed that each browser placed a different border between the two frames on the page. Along with that due to the browser windows each one showed a different amount of information heighth-wise.

Site was tested under these conditions - I checked my site under these 3 browsers: Firefox, Safari, and Netscape. Platform was OSX, 15in and 17in screen, both screens were set to 1024x768 millions. I also looked at 800x600 resolution with colors in millions on the 17in screen

problems you encountered, adjustments you decided to implement - with 800x600 resolution with colors in millions on the 17in screen, my site was blury and the whole page was more to the right instead of being centered. (i will not make any adjustments) 1024x768 millions: Platform OSX, 15in: everything looked fine in all three browsers, my chosen fonts staied the same in firefox but thats because i have firefos set up for that, other browser override my site fonts. my site looked brighter in safari but not by much, other than that i didnt encounter any problems. Platform was OSX, 17in screen; i just looked at it in Firefox and i didnt encounter any problems, i was actualy real happy to see that my contact form works! I only have it set up to send using a PIM, i dont have one set up on my 15in but my 17in does, so that was nice...

Site was tested under these conditions - I tested my site on a Mac using IE and Safari on a 17" screen. I also tested my site on a PC using IE and Firefox on a 14" monitor.

problems you encountered, adjustments you decided to implement - On the Mac I thought the colors were very clear although the red seemed more orange than on the PC. I couldn't see any changes that I would make due to what I was seeing. On the PC again, I couldn't see any flaws to the site that could be attributed to the browser or platform. The site didn't look as crisp and clear as it did on the Mac probably due to the quality of the screen. It looked a bit pixelated. The site is still a work in progress. So there are plenty of other changes I will be making!

problems you encountered, adjustments you decided to implement - I encountered no problems in running the site under any of the settings. Only a minor difference in running with Safari on the macintosh. On the forms the reset button does not reset the drop-down options list selector. I added a warning to users, stating they would have to reset it themselves.

Site was tested under these conditions - I tested my site under three different browswers and two screen sizes. At home, my screen size is large and the resolution is low, so my site and all the fonts looked terrific. Plus I really like the colors in the background (under IE). With Mozilla, the background colors still looked good, but the text was quite small; however, the different fonts stayed true for the most part. At the school library computer, with Netscape 7.0 and a small screen, I wasn't so impressed. The fonts didn't come through, nor did most of the subtlety in the colors. Everything was still easy to read inasmuch as there is plenty of space and no complicated graphics or large pictures.

problems you encountered, adjustments you decided to implement - I plan to change my fonts to make them more widely accessible and generalize my colors. I also want to increase the font size so as to make the text very user friendly and easier to read. I plan to add some simple graphics to spice up the look.

Site was tested under these conditions - Displaying CHOCOLATE in different machines/browsers http://student.santarosa.edu/~jolsen/4Lesson/index.html My Computer: Machine: PC Tower Operating System: Win XP, home Monitor: 15” flatscreen Resolution: 1024 x 768 Default Browser: IE, v. 6 Comments: Wow! What a spectacular webpage. It is ultimately awesome!! Other Browser: Firefox, v.1.0.7 Hmm. Vertical spacing is presented slightly differently, but this is not a problem. The graphic pop-ups (img alt…) do not pop-up. Other Computers: Machine: HP Pavilion Tower Operating System: Win 98 Monitor: 16” CRT Resolution: 800 x 600 Default Browser: AOL v. 9.0 Comments: Navigation bar along left column was squeezed to bottom of page below main text window – overall width of page proportions too big for screen Machine: Gateway Laptop, 17” screen Operating System: Win XP, home Monitor: 16” flatscreen Resolution: 1280 x 1024 Default Browser: IE, v. 6 Comments: Looked way too spread out. Would want to make it more compact. Machine: Apple Laptop Operating System: OS X, v. 4 Default Browser: Safari Resolution: (hmmm, didn’t catch that one) Observations: Looked fine. Looked like mine. Oh, pop-up labels on the graphics did not work. Machine: iMac (orange jellybean) Operating System: OS 8.6 Monitor: ??? 13” ?? Resolution: hah! Default Browser: AOL (I don’t know…hmmm, 4 or 5…maybe?) Comments: The header (a gif) didn’t display; proportions of windows ok; the graphic pop-ups didn’t display; PDFs didn’t work Other Browser: IE (don’t know, this info not relayed; must be old – like everything else) The header displayed ok; proportions of windows too big for screen – didn’t fit; Navigation bar along left column was squeezed to bottom of page below main text window; PDFs functioned

problems you encountered, adjustments you decided to implement - Oops - see above for problems encountered. Adjustments?? Well, all my problems have to do with proportions...is it better to set div dimensions by percentages? is it better to set font size by pixels or "smaller" "larger"? Is it worth struggling to make a webpage display nicely on ancient equipment where the software hasn't been updated in 5 years? I hope to find out in the HTML layout and design class! See ya this summer!!! :-)

Site was tested under these conditions - The page examined in every case was the one created for cascading screens and modified for Service side includes. Views were made: On a PC Laptop running Windows XP with a 14 inch screen in Netscape 8.1 (1024 x 768 and 1280 x 1024), and Explorer (1280 x 1024) On a Mac G4 desk top running OSX(10.4.6) with a 17 inch screen in Explorer (1024 x 768 stretched, millions of colors), (800 x 600, thousands of colors), (no pictures), (no style sheets); in Safari (800 x 600); in Mozilla 1.6; in Netscape 7.6; in Firefox 1.5.0.3; in OmniWeb 5.1.3 beta 1; and in Opera 9 Beta.

problems you encountered, adjustments you decided to implement - Settings: When pictures are eliminated, the yellow of second block of text does not show up well against the light blue background. I would change the background to something darker and/or change the picture. When style sheets are eliminated the picture, the background colors, and the formatting. The screen, however, was readable. No adjustment. It appeared that, on the PC, at increased resolution things, everything shrank and colors become more intense. The text is always ragged on this PC, but, at a higher resolution, either the problem abates or it appears to abate because the text is smaller. On the Mac, at lower resolutions, the the edges of the text appeared fuzzy. I realize that "fuzzy" and "ragged" are not technical terms, but to my eyes they are not the same. No adjustments. Browsers and systems. The blink attribute for text works in Netscape, Mozilla, and Firefox. I would take out the blink. I was just seeing how it worked when I put it in. The big discrepancies that need attention have to do with placement of elements. The two text boxes in the heading box do not appear in the same places in different browsers. I had selected the text colors to contrast with the background picture based on placement (dark against the sky, light against the foreground, so where the boxes are matters. I would like to take some time experimenting with CSS positioning to see what could be accomplished with different positioning schemes. The second problem has to do with a gap between the head box (includes a picture and two text boxes) and the boxes below it. In Explorer on the Mac (but not on the PC!), a horizontal stripe of background color shines through. At this point, I am out of ideas about what to do about this, unless postioning has something to do with it. However, the gap is not there when there is no text in the boxes; when you add text to either box, voilá, there is the gap. Adjust after figuring out how. There is also a smaller gap between the side box and the content box. Originally there was no gap; the gap is there to prevent Explorer on the PC (only on the PC again) from bumping the content box to below the side box. I would experiment with adjusting padding and percentage spaces for the boxes to try to adjust this. Finally, I never satisfactorily solved the problem about box height in Explorer. I would want to do this before using the page in the real world.

Site was tested under these conditions - I used Firefox and IE broswers to test the pages on the site. Noticed that on my SSI page the font was different for both because one browser can't handle a certain font. The screen size is fine but because my labtop has a wider screen I have to make sure I don't make my website a wide screen type of website so that those that don't have this type of screen dont have to scroll form left to right. The colors also are different but that is okay because the colors are coordianted so the change doesnt matter.

problems you encountered, adjustments you decided to implement - The main browser I use on my computer is Firefox which makes me work harder to create websites because Firefox as a browser is much more difficult to please. The site is based in an IE and Netscape broswer thus I had to create the school assignemnts under those conditions and then change it because the font, color, or some other thing didnt work on the Firefox broswer so that they would work on the Firefox browser. I know that there are more IE and Netscaper users out there I have decided to create my next websites so that they work on those broswers instead of Firefox although I could create a whole other site for Firefox broswers but that would mean so much work so have decided agaisnt that. So I changed the fonts, colors and other things to work on the more propular browswers.

Site was tested under these conditions - All situations were on a Mac iBook with 12" screen. Internet Explorer, Safari, Opera, Firefox Graphics off in Explorer, Safari, Opera, Firefox

problems you encountered, adjustments you decided to implement - Graphics off in all browsers: Did not include alt tags for any of the images so when the images didn't show up, there was no indication that there was anything in any of the browsers except Opera which held a box with the label "image" (eeeeww). Adjustment: Add alt tags to the images. Graphics off in Opera: submit button replaced with a box that had an image tag in it. Graphics off in Safari: Submit button disappeared completely. Graphics off in Firefox: Submit button image disappears, but the browser still lets us know that it is a sumit button link by showing the word "submit", except it is right next to the reset button, there is no space between the two and its just the word so it isn't clear that its a submit button.

Site was tested under these conditions - I looked at my web sites from this class and also the HTML A class last semester using IE, Firefox, and Netscape 8.1. I also experimented with changing the color quality of my display settings.

problems you encountered, adjustments you decided to implement - Changing the color settings didn't seem to have any effect, but I found two web pages that worked right with IE but not with Firefox and Netscape. The first was the page that demonstrated the use of CSS Classes. Linda had already pointed this out when she graded my homework, and she thought it was due to a mismatch between upper case and lower case between my .css file and .htm file. I tried changing everything to lower case, but that didn't fix the problem. The second page that displayed differently was my page for the Frames assignment. When viewing it in IE, the frame on the right has a tiled picture, but the picture doesn't display in either Firefox or Netscape. I haven't figured that one out, yet, either.

Site was tested under these conditions - I tested my site site using both IE 6.0 and Mozilla Firefox 1.5, both 1024 x 768 and 800 x 600 monitor resolution, and with graphics on and off. I simulated a smaller monitor by resizing the browser window and also used the preview feature in HTMLKit.

problems you encountered, adjustments you decided to implement - Switching between IE and Firefox caused a slight shift in the placement of text and images. Changing monitor resolution and the window size did not create any problems; the text wrapped nicely. Site was tested under these conditions - I tested my web site pages throughout the class using Netscape v8.0.4, Mozilla Firefox v1.5.0.2, and Microsoft IE v6.2900.xxx. I found that MSIE was the most forgiving on file names and locations. For this exercise I tried various screen resolutions and with and without graphics. I have access to 4 PCs at home, 2 desktops are pretty fast. The laptops are older. The smallest laptop has a 5 1/2 X 9 screen, so it is pretty small.

problems you encountered, adjustments you decided to implement - My initial homework problems mainly caused by naming conventions - mixing lower and upper case, this caused problems once uploaded to SRJC. Then Netscape was very picky on all table code - it had to be closed properly. My latest web pages seemed to work on all 3 browsers and all 4 PCs. I once tried to show someone my web site and some of the images were not loading, I found that to be file nameing issues. One main change was to try and keep the graphics smaller so that the pages would load faster. I once checked my site on a dial up connection and it was loading very slow.

The page would be too big for the display.

problems you encountered, adjustments you decided to implement - The 1280 x 1024 resolution is too small and it makes the font to thin and light. I tested my pages mainly with the Mozilla browser because if it would work it that, chances are it would work in other browsers just as well if not better. I preferred my default resolution of 1024 x 768! I didn't use a MAC for testing because I did not have access to one.

Site was tested under these conditions - Netscape and Explorer and the only browsers that I have, I do not know anyone that has a Mac. The monitor at home and here are both 17" and desktop so I am stuck there also. I will have to figure out how to turn off graphics also before I go with the real thing.

problems you encountered, adjustments you decided to implement - Well, for this leason I was constantly remodeling my website and there was always something that I had to figure out because I was not starting from scratch but I cannot remmber any of them right now.

Site was tested under these conditions - I used two Dell PCs, roughly same age with 2 different size monitors (15, 17). I viewed the website using IE and Firefox. I viewed at 800x600 resolution and 1024x768 resolution. I also viewed with graphics turned off.

problems you encountered, adjustments you decided to implement - The main problem I ran into between browsers was with my SSI code. While it works fine using Firefox, I get a message in IE which indicates "The XML page cannot be displayed" and "Cannot view XML input using style sheet." I don't recall reading that IE viewed SSI code differently, but I will need to explore this further to determine the fix. Otherwise, both browsers viewed the site similarly. The larger resolution was obviously clearer and more defined, while the lower resolution was fuzzy, with larger type. I will try creating the site using a lower resolution and see how it appears on a higher resolution. The site is pretty boring with graphics turned off, but can't do much about that. The site viewed well on both size monitors.
