One
assignment I had for a drawing class at the University of California at Santa
Cruz was to do an interpretive drawing of a master painting. I chose a Northern
Renaissance painting that seemed particularly fitting during these Viet Nam
war times. While I was working on the drawing the American bombings of Cambodia,
and the Kent State killings happened. Times at school got pretty chaotic; protests,
political action, suspension of classes. At first that mostly occupied my time,
but at some point I found myself spending many hours working on this while listening
to Beethoven symphonies in my dorm room. |
