Evolution

This is the first picture. Laughable, no? Actually, the first picture was a ballpoint scribble on a scrap of paper, which I foolishly threw away, not knowing its hisorical value. Careless of me. *smacks head dramatically*
Anyway, observe some of the early features needing improvement. Most noticeably, the doofy shoes. I think I'd been reading Sonic comics at the time, and I didn't know what other options there were. Also notice the four-fingered hands, the eyelashes, the earrings, the awkward-looking ears, and the lack of a jawline or browridges (the reptile equivalent of eyebrows).

I settled on a color scheme, though I had problems drawing it. I decided that I would be blue-green, or more specifically, blue with green swirling patterns. I haven't found a colored pencil yet that was the right shade, and swirls take time. So I usually just draw solid bluegreen.
The clothes are some kind of exercise outfit; I really just drew it like that in that first pic because it was easy. And, like the swirls, there's supposed to be some evidence of another shade of purple in the clothes. But I usually don't take the time to draw it. I will sooner or later.

Frilled lizards are known for flaring their frills to startle predators, something like this. They fold/relax their frills when they don't feel like startling anything. True, my frilled lizard morph doesn't look exactly like a non-morphic one, but I can still flare and fold my frill. It usually stays partly folded, in the way that looks something like a mohawk from the side.

After a while I lost the doofy shoes, thankfully. I didn't know how to draw 'em right, and I realized that they belonged on a different type of character. Of course, after getting rid of the shoes, I didn't know how to draw my feet. I stalled for a while by hiding them in water or tall grass, then experimented rather hesitantly with claws. I didn't know where I was heading with this, but eventually I figured out how to draw feet that looked close to right. This was mostly thanks to watching Gargoyles; I tried drawing gargoyle feet, and found something that fit.
And in case you're wondering, the middle picture was my Christmas present to my parents; it's me and my brother in one of his many incarnations. The colored version was on our refrigerator for quite a while.

When some time had passed, I got it together and "made an update." Finally, browridges so I could have better expressions! No more eyelashes, earrings, weird ears, or four-fingered hands. A jawline came into existence too, which helps quite a lot for just one simple line.
The head's a tad small in this pic, but it was the first one of the "new look." Now I'm pretty happy with the way I draw myself.

I do line drawings and shaded sketches, using plain pencils and the colored version, wearing the original outfit and the fancy new one, with wings and without. All styles are fun, and I'm happy with my evolution.
