Be sure and check out the SF Alternative Music Festival, featuring some of the best "out"-jazz and improvised music from the Bay Area plus some exciting out-of-town guests (Seth Miserka plays a killer aggressive sax, e.g.) ... it runs May 8-12, mostly in Oakland.
The Matthew Welch piece, which features bagpipes, was screechy enough to prompt a listener to call in, jovially, to tell me how horrible it was. It was almost meant as a compliment, and I took it as one ... after all, what kind of avant-garde DJ would I be if I didn't annoy someone once in a while?
