ROVA Saxophone Quartet will be convening another reading of John Coltrane's "Ascension," this Sunday, March 27, as part of the San Francisco Jazz Festival. A rare chance to see this expansive, big, loud work performed. Debating whether to play the original "Ascension" to call attention to the event. Or possibly the 1995 recording of "Ascension" by ROVA and friends, which is/was available on Black Saint records. The catch is that the thing is 40 minutes long, and I've got a shortened show today due to Stanford baseball. Hm.
