The 1999 Reserve Pinot Gris represents the fourth variety in the Jacuzzi series, and continues the tradition of elegance and character-wines carefully crafted and blended by Winemaker Matt Cline.

Our Pinot Gris vineyards are planted adjacent to the Cline Cellars winery, located in the Los Carneros district in Sonoma, California. The vines are six years old, and are planted on phylloxera-resistant rootstock, in shallow clay and loam soils. Howling afternoon winds that characterize the far southern end of the Carneros region mitigate much of the summer heat, allowing us to harvest delicious, ripe fruit while maintaining adequate acidity.

The 1999 harvest was, in a nutshell, short and late. Temperatures fell below normal, which provided for reds with intense color. White wines from the 1999 harvest show pronounced varietal character with good acid balance.

The Jacuzzi Pinot Gris is always the first white grape we harvest from our Los Carneros estate. The fruit is gray in color, and we gently press it to extract only the purest free-run juice. After inoculation with yeast, we cold fermented the juice at 55° until dryness. We chose to block malolactic fermentation, thus preserving lively acidity. Ten percent of this wine was barrel fermented for 2-3 months in new oak puncheons to add roundness

Our Jacuzzi Reserve Pinot Gris has ripe-peach infused aromas, with a lucious mouth-feel. It is an easy-to-drink wine that is especially enjoyable after a hard day spent crushing grapes! This wine is exceptionally ripe and balanced, and is lovely when served as an apéritif. It would pair well with any sautéed, poached or baked fish dish, simply prepared.
