BEAT LET SPRING OPENER SLIP AWAY
|
Up 10-1 in the middle of the third, the Beat
let the spring opener slip through their fingers with an 11-10 loss to
defending division champs Ronin.
Down 10-3 in the bottom of the 5th, Ronin began taking extra bases at every
opportunity manufacturing seven runs with aggressive baserunning that
consistently put runners in scoring position. They even scored a runner from
first on a single.
With the score tied at 10, Ronin plated the go ahead run in the bottom of
the 6th and the Beat's offense could not make up the deficit. Whether it was
opening day jitters or the outrageous strike zone, the Beat bats went silent
managing just two hits and zero runs over the final four innings. "If that
wasn't the most stunning loss in my Beat career I don't know what was worse"
replied Beat Manager Pete Wenner.
Luckily, it's just one game with seven more to go. The Beat has proven that
they can drop a quick 10-spot against the big dogs. Now they just need to
pad that lead and close it out. Next week the Beat puts the hammer to Spread
the Glove (1-1) at 10am, Jackson #1.
