What a crap performance by WSV, getting overrun by an overgrown
village that nobody ever heard of. Verl kicked their asses all
over the field, and WSV was lucky they didn't get totally whipped.
As it is, they left town with their tails between their legs.
Hopefully next week against the ex-WSV traitors from Oberhausen,
they'll get their act together, but this result doesn't seem to make that
too likely.
After a very average game, Verl left the field as the deserved
winner. Walz scored the deciding goal, a 16m shot that was unluckily
deflected by Mademann. But Verl had additional clear chances,
from Notthoff (20.), Stern (30.), Pollmeier (34.), Raschke (44.) and
then Pollmeier again (72.). Meanwhile, the totally disappointing
WSV squad relied on ineffectual high balls, and couldn't
generate a single decent chance.
For Verl, without captain Schmidt, Warbende, Ostermann and the
banned Gebhardt, the best player was libero Ritz. On the WSV side,
only goalkeeper Heinen was outstanding, preventing a worse disaster.
