Back of the House

Our main clothesline extended from the right-hand downstairs window out to a pole a bit further back from where this shot was taken. Those two windows look out from Mother and Father's bedroom. The Boys Room is upstairs.

At this time, the area below the house to the right was a forest of acacia trees and scotch broom. Though only the size of a quarter of a city block, it was like a wilderness to me. Once in it, you were completely out of sight of the house above and Larkspur's main street, Magnolia Avenue, below, though neither were more than 50 or so feet away. Those times I dared wander into it, exploring the various pieces of discarded junk that were scattered about, became an adventure both audacious and somewhat frightening. A couple years after this, something truly horrible befell this area. Click here to see what I mean.
