Rosemary and the Wash

There seems not to have been an officially-designated term for this area. Its primary usage, besides occasionally providing space for sunbathing, magazine perusal and permanent wave setting, was for drying wash. The main clothesline, running on a pulley from the kitchen window, is out of sight, but you can see its shadow on the wall behind the chair. The one with what appear to be rags hanging on it was sort of an auxiliary affair.

For a long time, an old gas range sat out here rusting away. The area under the house was also used to "store" unused stuff for years until it finally got hauled off to the dump.

A couple years after this shot, this area became the site of the City of Penton firehouse.
